Last Post - New Writing of the Month for May ~ Intimate Snowflakes

EVE (looking at the writing)

(smiling) It says ‘I wish I had the courage to believe in my dreams’ ... (smiling at Izzy) ... I have come full circle ...

However far away they seem - however steeped in magic – mystery - or fallen red leaves and scattered with well meaning madness they are - they are yours and yours only and they should be as precious to you as old black and white photos and childhood keepsakes.

Put them carefully away and remember them with joy - love them with honesty and keep them close to your fingertips.

Hi everyone

It's May and this will be my last blog post for the foreseeable future.

I am taking maternity leave lol, I have just a few weeks left before my due date - 5 weeks and 3 days exactly according to my pregnancy app - scary stuff. She is growing well. kicking like mad and enjoys getting hiccups! We are all so excited to meet her.

I have shared the last lines of our (me and my Mum's) play 'Dragonflies in Amber' - all about dreaming and that dreams should be important to all of us. We wanted the play to be like having a celestial experience for the audience.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated since I don't know when I'll be back, or if I'll be back. This blog has been up and running for 4 years now, my first post was back on 30th April 2012! How things have changed! I have to admit a lot of the time I have felt I've been talking to the wall but I would like to thank all those that have commented and interacted with me, thank you for taking the time to read my work! :)

The synopsis for the play is;

‘Dragonflies in Amber’  explores the inner world of a woman named Eve.  It sets out to question her beliefs on love, hate, desires, longings, childhood events, hidden talents, confidence etc. through the world of lucid dreaming. When we are young we are naturally connected with our emotional and spiritual selves but slowly lose touch with this aspect of ourselves as we ‘grow up’. This play questions what women may have lost by ignoring their inner world.

The play is set over five nights dreaming and each dream sequence (scene) is a ‘vignette’.  Eve is looking to reconnect with her dreaming to find meaning to her life once more. As she meets up again with Izzy, her co-creator of reality in the Dreamworld, she finds that there are many dark secrets and forgotten traumas that she must finally face and understand in order to bring vitality back into her life, therefore finding meaning and purpose once more.

It's a very spiritual play with some beautiful lines that really make you think (even if I do say so myself) which brings me on to happily say that two of my poems are in the latest issue of 'Kindred Spirit' magazine. They are available to buy from their stand at the huge Mind, Body, Spirit Festival in London this weekend (29th-2nd) as well as specialist stockists :) I'm delighted to be included.

I've also had two of my flash fiction pieces featured on 'Three Drops from a Cauldron' - 'Old Norse' and 'Old Perfume' - it's a lovely website and I'm really happy to be a part of it.

Since this is my last post I have to include another link to my ebook 'Alchemy' - it was such a joy to write and put together. I would like to give another heartfelt thank you to everyone who has read, loved and given 'Alchemy' a fantastic review! It has meant so much to this humble little indie author :)

So it's goodbye for now, I have to get all the last minute baby things and prepare to meet my little girl!

Have a wonderful Bank Holiday Weekend

New Writing of the Month for April ~ Minutes & Seconds

Time is so tedious and tactile,
it sits with me and holds my hand
counting off the seconds
on my fingers
like a mother and child,
blowing on my palm
and chasing the fallen seconds away.

Hi everyone,

Sorry this month's new writing is late (all due to pregnancy stuff yesterday) - I am getting pretty big now, I've only got 10 weeks to go!

I hope you enjoy 'Minutes & Seconds' - it's a short poem but I thought it was beautiful, it has lovely imagery.

'Alchemy' has received a fantastic review on Linda's Book Bag! It made my week!

'It’s a huge shame that this kind of writing is so underrated as talents like Jade Kennedy’s are in danger of being lost in the face of the huge publishing houses and big name authors. I think she deserves recognition and praise for her writing as she really has ‘fingers tinted in poetry’.'

I couldn't thank her enough! It really gave me hope :)

Have a lovely weekend

New Writing of the Month for March ~ Loss

If I could make poppies flower wherever I wished
I would make them flower in the darkest places,
red and dark with my blood,
but who would want my blood?
Thicker than others, oily and heavy
with suppression,
passed up for common dirty water.
Poppies would flower from dirty carpets
and in between the mortar of old houses,
they would flower in all their glory during the day
shrivelling into pools of blood at night
unique and wonderful,
lost to the world before they could be discovered

Hi everyone - it's the first day of Spring!

A bit of a dark-ish poem to start off Spring but who cares lol. I wrote this in November inspired by all the poppies that were around for memorial day, it's not inspired by war but they kept coming into my thoughts as I wrote and this poem came about. I think it's my need/want to see the beauty in dark situations and that if I could I would make happiness come from nothing. I also think it's partly to do with my own relationship with writing.

I've had my flash fiction pieces 'Old Norse' and 'Old Perfume' accepted by the webzine 'Three Drops from a Cauldron' (great name eh?) They will be featured in April and I'll let you know at the time.

I'm getting bigger and bigger and the baby's kicks are getting stronger! :) I had my second scan in early February and the midwife got to see everything she needed to - all perfectly healthy.

Happy Tuesday and Happy St David's Day to any Welsh readers!

New Writing of the Month for February ~ Fragments of Winter

How mesmerising my dreams have been
the power of light and desires fed into the fire,
my soul is but a few
fragments of silence
born into a world of noise.
I dream dreams of friendships that cannot be,
of colours on walls
that morph into whatever I am thinking.
As I press my hands into the paint
it claims my fingers
and stains my skin forever.
I dream of escapes and laughter,
of things I long to see in my waking hours
for winter is the quiet season.

Hi everyone and hello freezing February!

I hope you like 'Fragments of Winter' - it's obviously inspired by dreams, and I've been having some very vivid strange dreams fuelled by my hormones. I've had dreams of pulling out my own teeth, some have had celebrities in and another one was about being taken hostage! I really love some of the lines in this poem - 'the power of light and desires fed into the fire'. The gorgeous artwork is by my amazing Mum.

I feel somewhere along the way I've lost the rawness and passion of writing (one too many rejections will do that!).  I really hope to get it back.

I have been interviewed for a section on the blog 'Emily Reads Everything' called 'Awesome Indies' - I talk about 'Alchemy', my writing process and even share a very snazzy photo of my writing buddy Tomas.

I was hoping to be able to share with you all whether the baby is a boy or girl but the baby had other plans and during my scan kept his/her legs tightly together - I have seriously never seen a straighter pair of legs on a scan photo! lol. Stubborn already. I have another scan tomorrow so maybe I can tell you all in my next post. The baby has also now moved on from wriggling to kicks and I'm getting kicked on a regular basis.

Happy Monday

New Writing of the Month for January ~ Light & Shadow

The light has been stolen away
                           bit by bit each day

Once the tide turns
a small handful of light
will be returned each day
every piece as small
                           as a grain of sand

until then we hold as much light as we can
in all colours and shapes

casting long shadows

to stand guard for us
                            against the chill.

Hello 2016!

Hello everyone, I hope you had a great time celebrating the New Year last night. No hangover for me since it was an entirely sober festive season - I don't really care, I've never been much of a drinker and being pregnant is better anyway :)

We welcomed in 2016 last night and I lit my first firework! - I couldn't believe it but I realised the other day that I've never lit one before. Then we were in bed by 1! lol Some party people we are.

I hope you all enjoy 'Light & Shadow' it was inspired by the return of the daylight, the longest day has been and gone - the days will get longer and warmer now. Nature is amazing :)

Have you made any New Year's Resolutions? I'm not really a fan of making them but something I really want to do this year is write my socks off and really knuckle down and promote 'Alchemy' - I'm not going to have much time after June!

Happy Friday and have a wonderful start to 2016.

Happy Christmas!

Happy Christmas!

I hope you all have a wonderful festive season whatever you're doing :)

As I write this I'm having a coffee with some homemade gingerbread... how very Christmassy!

'Alchemy' has received a wonderful review on Portobello Book Blog -

'Jade Kennedy’s writing was very atmospheric, filled with emotion and at times mystical.'

It's so heartwarming as a writer to hear how much someone enjoyed your work, it makes it all worthwhile. It's a great defense for those days when you want to throw everything in the bin. So thank you from the bottom of heart to all my readers and reviewers!

In other news I'm now in my 16th week of pregnancy and starting to feel the little one move about - I know it might be early but it's a weird but wonderful sensation that I've never felt before. It feels more like bubbles then fluttering and it is very active at night! lol I'm also still waiting for a present in the post for Carl that I ordered from Amazon - which they think has been delivered ... I beg to differ!

Have a lovely Wednesday and a fantastic Christmas... looking forward to begin back in the New Year!

New Writing of the Month for December - 'Selene'

The light that obscured
the falling leaves of autumn,
has become the guiding light of winter nights
Laying beside the stars
and the soft lights of home,
they become a part of my soul
reflected in the darkness
and in my eyes as I grow moon shaped
Light is everlasting
and exudes a much needed calm
always carrying a hope
or a wish
of mine
to burn within
released into the air like smoke.

Hi everyone and welcome to December - I can't believe how fast the year has gone! (maybe that's a consequence of getting old!)

I hope you enjoy 'Selene' - she is the goddess of the moon in Greek Mythology. I don't write much poetry anymore, I seem to want to expand on my ideas and writing to make a longer prose/flash fiction piece so I am happy to be returning to poetry and its purity. I think this is a beautiful poem with a lovely atmosphere and as always with my writing has a element of the seasons throughout.

This poem also has a personal significance and this is why I've shared it today, especially including the line 'as I grow moon shaped' ... me and Carl have done something bonkers... we've made a baby!! I've already had my first scan and the baby is lovely and healthy and already doesn't enjoy being poked! lol :)

It's a lovely surprise - and it definitely was a surprise, he/she wasn't planned. I'm due in June and my Mum is already making a baby blanket, she is so excited and I know she will be an amazing grandmother (she wants to be called Nan).

Hopefully 'Alchemy' should be getting some reviews soon! :) I'll keep you informed and also on the developments of the bump.

Happy Tuesday
